Welcome Auburn University's Campus Ministry

After a fantastic week last week, we are in for another. this week we are hosting Auburn's campus ministry's spring break mission trip. Their previous plans of serving in Haiti were cancelled due to the earthquake. Even now, skilled labor and first responders are needed in country. However, this week they'll be focusing on the Haitian community in Miami and the relief efforts being staged from here. May God be glorified in all that is done and said. May this week open each participant's eyes to interconnectedness of God's people.

Not just a Superbowl weekend

It was an exciting time in Miami this weekend. Gorgeous weather coupled with the many tourists and fans of the Superbowl teams weren't the only excitement in town. Also the new class of Brethren Volunteer Corps participants were in town as a part of the orientation to their year of service. Seventeen participants and leaders enjoyed the sun, food, sands and people of Miami. We pray blessings on them and may the year of service in all of their respective locations open up their hearts and minds to God's call in their lives.

Our Favorite Weather Website

With the storm season springing to life, I find that I check my favorite weather site before I check my email. Weather Underground is a great weather site especially for tropical activity, as they call it. It's not a crazy political gang from the 70s, just a pun on the name. Excellent maps and blogs and when you live in Miami, you learn more about tropical weather systems than you ever thought you would.

Actually here in Miami, our tropical storms build community. Neighbors will help each other put up window coverings. Folks will check on their elderly residents. Of course, storm damage can bring out the worst in people as well. Price gouging, scamming contractors, plain old jerks seem to come around just in time of crisis. But Community isn't all peachy keen and rosy to say the least. It's just a knowledge of a group of people that were in it together. And Storms can make a county of 2.5 million people think alike. Smells like a miracle.

Bring your extra childrens books!!

Our partner agencies with children's programs are requesting Children's Books. One of these agencies in particular is building shelves and beginning a library for their neighborhood charter school. Any books you can bring will be helpful. All reading levels are needed.
